Conservation Assistant

Location:  Madison, MN
Position:  Conservation Assistant (Part time Temporary)
Compensation:  $10-13 per hour, 500 hour maximum
Duration:  August – January approximately

Position Purpose:
The purpose of this internship is to provide support for the various programs of the Lac qui Parle SWCD.  The Lac qui Parle SWCD works primarily with farmers to implement conservation on the ground.  In addition, the district participates in and lead various programs for improving water and soil quality in the county.  This position will provide direct support to SWCD and partner staff in these work areas.

Basic Qualifications
No experience is required.  Training will be provided on all equipment and programs. Qualified applicants must be enrolled as a full-time college student or have graduated with a post secondary education degree with the last calendar year.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • General interest in agriculture and/or natural resource management

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds

  • Willingness to perform physical labor in a variety of weather conditions and terrains.

  • Valid driver’s license

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist technical staff with status reviews on State and Federal contracts.

  • Market programs such as CRP, CCRP, and CREP.

  • Support SWCD Programs including education and outreach events.

  • Develop a District newsletter.

  • Complete monthly DNR observation well monitoring

  • Assist with the District Native Grass Program including operation and maintenance of equipment.

  • Assist with the Aquatic Invasive Species program

  • Assist with all other aspects of District Operations as necessary.
