Importance of pollinators to our ecosystems

We hear lots about pollinators early on in life. Maybe elementary school, or even middle and high school environmental science. But they fall to the wayside eventually as a buggy by-product of the outdoors. But what if we saw the truth about them? That truth is that pollinators are as crucial to the environment as is food or water is to us humans! Pollinators do just that: travel from one plant to another, enticed by sweet nectar, to facilitate plant reproduction. Did you know 1/3 bites of food is due to pollinators? That's how crucial protecting them and creating habitat for them is.
We at the Lac qui Parle SWCD have been hard at work prioritizing pollinator habitat in our county. Between the Lawns to Legumes program, Minnesota Native Landscapes' community habitat partnership, and the Pollinator Pathways grant given to the city of Dawson, pollinator habitat is coming to Lac qui Parle county!
