Lawns to Legumes Grant Program

What is it?

Lawn to legumes is a grant program to facilitate planting more for pollinators in Minnesota. This is a joint program through Blue Thumb and Minnesota's Board of Water and Soil Resources. Any Minnesotan can apply to receive reimbursement for native planting projects and support at-risk pollinators like the monarch butterfly and rusty patched bumble bee. Each spring and fall, a new cohort of participants gets selected to take part in the program.

Minnesota residents are eligible to apply for Lawns to Legumes reimbursement-based funding of up to $400 to create pollinator habitat in their yards. They are now accepting applications for Spring 2026 Lawns to Legumes grants. The deadline to apply is November 30, 2025. Grant recipients will be notified in mid-January 2026.

The Blue Thumb or BWSR websites are fantastic places to start. They have information on the grant selection process, the requirements, how the program is funded, applying again and anything else you can think of. If you'd rather talk to someone instead of doing some web sleuthing, come on down to the Lac qui Parle Soil and Water office in Madison, MN, or give us a call at 320-598-7071. SWCD Manager Rhyan has been a L2L coach since 2021!
